Musselshell Ranch

 

Location:

The ranch is location 3.5 miles east of Rye gate in Golden Valley County. Access to the ranch is Highway 12. Highway 12 is the main the highway between Billings and Great Falls. Billings is 60 miles southeast and Roundup is 34 miles east Harlowton is 32 miles west. The Musselshell River flows through the ranch and provides irrigation water and stock water. This is a ranching community.

Buildings:

All of the buildings were built new in 1992. The home is a 1680 sq. ft. home and has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, office, living room, kitchen and utility room. The master bedroom has a walk in closet and 1 large bath. The home has a central vacuum system plus a Blaze King wood stove with electric base board heat. The lawn is watered by an underground sprinkler system.

There are 2 30' x '50 metal pole buildings. One building is used for a shop and machinery storage with half of the floor cement. The second building is used for a livestock barn complete with a tack room and corrals.

Water:

The well at the headquarters is 35 ft. deep and produces 40 G.P.M.. This well is used for domestic and stock water. There is a new water tank in the corral plus a water tank located in the adjacent pastures.

The irrigation water is from Deadman's Basin Reservoir and Decreed water rights which are pumped from the Musselshell river with 2 electric pumps.

Acreage:

There are 160 +/- acres in the Musselshell Ranch. 32 acres are boarder dike for flood irrigation from a buried line with alfalfa values. 38 acres are irrigated by two wheel line sprinklers. The balance of the ranch is river bottom used for grazing. The Musselshell River flows through the ranch for nearly 3/4 of a mile.

Wildlife:

The river bottom is also excellent wildlife habitat. The ranch is home to deer, pheasants and wild turkeys. Both whitetail and mule deer are plentiful in the area.

Comment:

The Musselshell Ranch would be an excellent place to display a herd of registered cattle or horses to retire and enjoy life. The ranch would also make a great hunting get away or second home for fishing or other recreation. This is one of those hard to find scenic ranches in ranching country, yet within a short drive to convenient shopping & supplies.
