GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Pine View Ranch consists of rugged sand stone rimrocks with benches covered by scattered Pine trees. The rimrocks were created by the creek drainages dissecting the ranch, which created habitat and protection for wildlife and livestock. The ranch opens up to gentle rolling pastures of grass, forbs, and sage. The ranch has primarily been used as a cattle operation and has over 600 cows or 1,200 yearlings. This is an area where it generally takes 1 to 1.5 ton of hay to winter and more often than not allows wintering cows with only minimal supplement.
CLIMATE The annual precipitation reported by the National Weather Service is between 12 and 14 inches of annual precipitation. Chinook winds are common in the winter months keeping snow cover to a minimum. Temperatures average 82 degrees F in the summer to 25 degrees F in the winter.
PASTURE The Pine View Ranch consists of mostly native range. Grasses are western wheat grass, blue gamma grass, green needle grass, prairie june grass, and blue stem grass. Soils range from clay, clay loam, and sandy loam. Intermixed in the pastures are both silver and big sage. There are many coulees throughout the ranch for protection for livestock and wildlife. WATER IMPROVEMENTS The Pine View Ranch is considered to be adequately watered. Stock water ranges from springs to dams and wells located throughout the ranch.
