The Boyd Angus Ranch is located in the famous Ruby Valley in western Montana. Historic Virginia City is 6 miles to the east of the ranch headquarters on highway 287. Vigilantes maintained the law in the 1800’s in the valley very effectively. The area is rich in western history.
The ranch consists of 5,420 +/- total acres including State and BLM leases. 600 +/- acres irrigated by 6 pivots ranging in size from 50 to 120 acres plus 1 wheel line and flood irrigation.
The irrigation water rights date from 1865 to 1891 priority dates. Water is supplied by the Ruby River Water Users Assn. and the Vigilante Canal User’s Assn. The irrigation water rights are very dependable.
Annual hay production is over 2,000 tons of high quality hay plus small grains of oats or barley in the crop rotation.
The headquarters consiste of a brick Victorian 2 story 4 bedroom 2 bath home that has been remodeled, newer calving barn, heated shop, machinery shop and a complete set of working corrals.
Elk, Whitetail Deer and Mule Deer are abundant on the ranch. Ducks and Canadian Geese frequent the ponds and streams. The nearby Ruby River is famous for trout fishing in Montana.
All mineral rights transfer with the sale of the ranch. The Real Estate taxes are around $8,500.00 annually.
